Medical nutrition therapy is the most important component in dietetic practice.
The whole process involves accurate nutritional assesments, nutrition diagnosis, appropriate nutrition intervention and continuous monitoring and evaluation for patients. Failure to identify nutritional problem and initiate intervention at early stage will result in malnutrition and complications of diseases that ultimately will prolong hospital stay and reduce quality of life of a patient. An updated and relevant reference is required in order to assess and plan for prompt nutrition therapy for patients. Therefore, this handbook is produced to assist the healthcare profesionals such as dietitians, nutritionists, medical officers, nurses, dietetic or medical interns and other personnel in their patient dietary management either in ward, clinical or community setting.
