Berdasarkan nama "lima rempah-rempah", anda mungkin boleh meneka terdapat lima rempah yang berlainan dalam serbuk lima bumbu. Ini biasanya campuran anise bintang, ulas, kayu manis Cina, lada Sichuan dan benih adas.
