Description

The dried seeds are the parts most traditionally used in cooking since ancient times. Coriander seeds which also known as ‘Ketumbar’ in Malay and ‘芫荽’ in Chinese are native to Southern Europe and the Mediterranean region. It is one of the oldest herbs and spices recorded in history.  It is plump and brown in colour and have a hollow cavity which bears essential oils that lend to the flavour of the dishes when used in cooking. Coriander seeds are the plant’s dried fruit, which can be used whole or ground as a spice in European, Asian, Latin, and Indian dishes. Coriander seeds from coriander plants are dry fried and grounded into powder which helps to retain the aromatic flavor of seeds.

Coriander’s subtle sweet-and-sour flavor profile also lends itself to both sweet and savory dishes. It is often used as flavoring agent in confectionery, stews, sausages, sweetbreads, and cakes. It is also widely used in Indian preparations such as rasam, vegetable preparations and kara kuzhambu, curries and gravies as it introduces the mild aroma that instigating the appetite.
