Notes: The Naked Goby is so named due to its lack of scales and are native to the temperate waters of North America. Although in the wild they can be found in water ranging from Freshwater to Full Saltwater, they do best in high end brackish conditions. In the wild, they inhabit oyster reefs, using discarded shells as locations for breeding. They will instead use rocks or tank ornaments if shells are not provided. Naked Gobies are lively fish and will actively defend their territory from similar fish, though they are still known for hiding in the substrate from time to time. They typically ignore dissimilar fish.

Naked Gobies can be bred in the home aquarium. This is best attempted using a trio of fish (one male and two females). Eggs are laid on the underside of shells, which are then guarded by the male until the eggs hatch. The young should be fed with marine rotifers until they are big enough to take newly hatched brine shrimp.
