「這一部《黎紫書小小說》的兩位編者，可以說將他們心裡那一張黎紫書作品的路線圖畫出來了。它要比我自己編選的作品集更客觀，幾乎更全面地展示我在這文體上所作的探求，甚至也逼著我直視自己怎樣一路走來。在早期的作品中，我在意故事的完整性，小說主題也總是比較清晰，而且還經常揚起鞭子想要撻伐這些或那些人，或者心底暗暗想要通過寫作來改造社會。而在較後的作品中，我顯然不再執著於故事的完整，轉而追求『小說的完整』，而相比之下，故事也就只是小說創作中一個雖基本卻很淺薄的層面。我甚至嘗試把它削得更薄一些，或者把它藏在細節和留白中，引導讀者自行填充。這些轉變和『完成』多半不是顯山露水，著於痕跡的，在我，其實有點像武俠小說《笑傲江湖》中令狐沖向風清揚習得的獨孤九劍，非得把辛辛苦苦練得滾瓜爛熟的招式一一忘卻不可，最終以無招勝有招。這麼說，我自己也知道太過玄虛了，但文學本來就和其他藝術形式一樣，不純粹是一件技術工作。它裡頭定然有無可名狀處，那才是藝術的力量所在，也是它真正打動人的地方。」 ──黎紫書
