希薇亞．普拉絲（Sylvia Plath，1932～1963）
出身於美國麻薩諸塞州，是詩人，也是小說家，《鐘形罩》（The Bell Jar）是她生平所創作、面世的唯一一部小說（以筆名「維多利亞．盧卡斯」出版），書中詩意處處，是為半自傳體小說。
畢業於麻薩諸塞州史密斯學院（Smith College）和英國劍橋大學紐納姆學院（Newnham College），擁有相當堅實的文藝寫作背景。早慧、纖細而敏銳，被譽為天才詩人，生前曾出版多部詩集，更以出版商於一九八一年出版的《詩集》集子（The Collected Poems），獲頒了普立茲詩歌獎（Pulitzer Prize for poetry），是史上第四位於過世後獲此榮譽的人。
一九五六年，她與同為詩人的泰德．休斯（Ted Hughes）結婚，先後住在美國、英國，兩人育有一女一子。一九六二年，夫妻分居。一直以來深受憂鬱症所苦的她，一邊獨力撫育當時僅兩三歲大的孩子們，一邊仍寫作不輟，寫了至少九首詩，更於一九六三年出版了《鐘形罩》這部小說，但於小說出版後一個月於倫敦自盡，結束了生命。
《鐘形罩》這部小說，是認識這位優秀詩人作家最合適的作品，書中不僅刻劃了青春的騷動與煩躁，也讓人深刻思考父權沙文主義，如何無所不在地以隱形之姿罩住了從古至今、從小到老、不分中外的每一位女性。
