東吳大學中國文學博士，現任教於東吳中文系，研究領域為「現代文學」、「文學與電影」。著有《佛洛伊德讀張愛玲》、《文學與電影讀本》、《張愛玲與《傳奇》》及相關論文。曾獲中央日報文學獎、全國學生文學獎、國軍文藝金像獎、東吳大學教學傑出教師。

文學與電影雖是兩種不同的媒介材料所構成的不同的符號系統，但彼此在形式上卻經常「脫胎換骨」──文學常成為電影的素材，而電影也屢屢轉化為文學，《鏡夢與浮花：張愛玲小說的電影閱讀》便是從電影的觀點，來閱讀張愛玲的小說。
張愛玲雖然以小說與散文創作聞名，但其實她與電影之間也有層深厚的關係──從小，她愛看電影，愛讀電影雜誌，嘗試寫影評，創作電影劇本；她曾將自己的小說改編為電影劇本，曾將別人的小說、電影、舞台劇本改編為電影劇本，也曾將自己的電影劇本改寫成小說；許多電影導演紛紛將她的小說搬上銀幕，其小說本身也具有濃重的電影感。
本書以「張愛玲小說的電影閱讀」為題，企圖透過電影技巧與本體的觀念，全盤爬梳張愛玲小說對電影技巧的挪移與對電影本體意識的掌握，以挖掘小說中的電影幽魂，肯定其美學及歷史上的意義。
本書在進行主要的電影閱讀之餘，亦同時運用文學閱讀的方法。在電影閱讀上，由文本中對電影技巧的感官知覺層面出發，連結故事，進入主題層面，最後歸納審美特徵，確立其中的影像美學；在文學閱讀上，則觀察作家的背景經歷與思想意識在字裡行間的滲透，再輔以修辭學、精神分析、女性主義等觀點，進而整體而深入的把握張愛玲小說具有電影化想像的藝術價值。
張愛玲與電影之間，存在一段漫長的「華麗緣」，從一名欣賞電影的影迷，到寫作電影評論、電影劇本，到將自己的電影劇本改為小說，再到將自己與別人的小說改為電影劇本；兩種符號系統的相互轉換，固然強化了各自的優勢，卻也突顯了彼此的限制，於是，她選擇了讓小說來互補缺憾──在小說中融入電影藝術。
