本書以中西方內衣的傳世實物與形象資訊為主，著重形象的考據，中國部分的實物收集與整理前後化費了數十年的時間，收集過程也是不斷思考的過程，西方部分的內容得到了斯坦福大學和牛津大學文化學者紐約時裝學院博物館主任瓦萊麗．斯蒂爾（Valerie Steele）的支持。
