英裔美籍女作家，一八四九年十一月二十四日生於英國曼徹斯特，一八六五年隨家人移居美國，卒於一九二四年十月二十九日。 法蘭西斯是最早使用現代心理描寫手法進行兒少文學創作的作家之一。她十八歲開始發表作品；二十八歲時，出版了她的第一部暢銷書《勞瑞家的閨女》；六十二歲時，發表了她最著名也最成功的作品《祕密花園》，奠定了她在文學史上舉足輕重的地位。此外還有代表作品《小公主》（又名莎拉公主）、《小公子》 等，廣愛歐美國家青少年的喜愛。
