Hypochlorous acid is cleared by the FDA for use on meat, poultry, fish & seafood, fruits & vegetables and shell eggs as a no-rinse sanitizer.直至次氯酸接觸空氣及紫外光後，更會被還原分解為水（H2O），標榜天然無害。 文獻中顯示，次氯酸水（Hypochlorous acid, 簡稱HOCl），已成為世界公認的食品級消毒殺菌劑。 1834年由法國化學家Antoine Jérôme Balard首次發現的次氯酸，其消毒及殺菌效能比消毒火酒及漂白水更優勝。
