Folic acidif taken for one month before conception and during pregnancy, may reduce the risk of having a child with spina bifida/neural tube defects.

Iodineis essential for the production of thyroid hormones which in turn, are critical for the development of a babys brain, visual motor skills and hearing.

Ironis necessary for formation of haemoglobin in red blood cells, which transports oxygen to the tissues. If iron levels are low in pregnancy, there may be an increased risk of low birth weight.
