GMB's Ball Joint
GMB ball joint assures proper friction and pivoting action to enable smooth vehicle handling. It properly responds to road conditions in order to ensure stable driving and to support driving comfort.
In order to realize these goals, GMB utilizes high-friction resistent resin(POM:ACETAL), special synthetic grease to minimize friction. Inside dust cover a mud-preventive grease is contained to maximize ball joint life.
Thai GMB conducts static tests, destruction and endurance tests upon development to ensure product quality.
Proper heat treatment on special steel, rigorous receiving inspection, and QA patrol in addition to self check in quality control enable us to ensure the driving comfort and safety.
Functions
Consists of housing which connects to control arm and of ball stud which connects to wheel side. Plastic sheet is incorporated between housing and ball stud.
Plug or cap is inserted and then housing is caulked to prevent grease leakage. The other side of caulking is filled with mud-prevention grease inside dust cover.
Construction
In classification of ball joint by lower arm fastening style there are press-fit type, bolt type, rivet type and arm unit type ball joint. By wheel side fastening style there are upper fastening type and pinch bolt fastening type ball joint.
By ball seat material there are metal type and plastic type ball joint. Metal type takes grease nipple for continuous lubrication. In the mean time plastic type is free from grease nipple as special compound grease is sealed in at production.
GMB produces plastic type for most part numbers recently.
