Human rights defenders are a rare breed in Malaysian society and Tan Sri Simon Sipaun is one rare Malaysian. PROHAM is honouring him for his human rights services by launching this booklet which is a collection of 19 human rights speeches delivered by him between 2011 and 2014 when he served as Proham’s founding chairman.
These speeches are divided into seven thematic areas namely: human rights concerns, universal periodic review, social inclusion, citizenship, religious freedom, general elections and ethnic relations.
These human rights themes give a glimpse of the areas he and PROHAM have been championing over the past three years. These have been undertaken under a very strong conviction that a human rights based approach in line with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UHDR) is the best policy and legislative framework for the protection of fundamental liberties and freedoms. It will also ensure socio-economic inclusion for all individuals, groups and communities.
Tan Sri Simon Sipaun is the Founding Chairman of PROHAM. He was the former Vice Chairman of SUHAKAM the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia.
