Mentha piperitais a hybrid of watermint (M. aquatica) and spearmint (M. spicata). Mints are mentioned in early medieval plants lists and were brought to Britain in Romans time. Mentha piperita has been found in Egyptian tombs dating back to 1,000 B.C. and there is evidence that peppermint has long history in Europe, China and Japan.

Peppermint is excellant for mental fatigue and depression, refreshing the spirit and stimulating mental agility and improving concentration. It helps for apathy, shock, headache, migraine, nervous stress, faintness. In respirtory system, it helps with dry cough, sinus congestion, asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis and cholera. For digestive system, it is effective for a range of ailments, as it stimulates the gall bladder and secretion of bile. It is used for colic, cramps, dydpepsia, spastic colon, flatulence and nausea. Peppermint oil is also good for pain relieve in case of toothache, aching feet, rheumatism, neuralgia, muscular pains and period pains. On the skin, it is used to relieve skin irritation, itchness and redness where inflammation is present. It is used for dermatitis, acne, ringworm, scabies, pruritus, sunburn.
