Lavender essential oil has been used in aromatheraphy for more than 2500 years. Lavender is well known for its fresh, floral and sweet aroma. The words "Lavender" comes from the Latin words "Lavare" which means "to wash" as lavender were used to scent the water in Roman times. Romans also used lavender as a perfume, insect repellent and flavoring. They even added dried lavender to their smoking mixtures.

There are several varieties of lavender. Our lavender oil is also known as True Lavender or botanical name of Lavandula angustifolia, which has a great skin healing properties on burns while Spike Lavender and Lavandin (hybrid lavender) which may also named as "Lavender" may actually worsen the skin problems. Thus it is important to know the species of oil that you are using. All lavender oils may have calming and relaxing properties, but only the true lavender has the healing properties.

Lavender oil has a soothing and calming effect on nerves, relieving tensions, depression, panic, hysteria, mental fatigue, headaches, migraine and insomnia. For respiratory system, it is beneficial for bronchitis, asthma, colds, laryngitis, halitosis, throat infections, whooping coughs. For digestive system, it helps with colic, nausea, vomiting, flatulence. Lavender oil also relieve pains when used for rheumatism, arthritis, lumbago, muscular aches and pains especially those associated with sports. On the skin, it tones and revitalizes and helps with all types of skin problems such as abscesses, acne, oily skin, boils, burns, sunburns, wounds, psoriasis, lice and insect bites and stings. Lavender oil is also widely used as insect repellant and insecticide.
