作者簡介：
西西
原名張彥，廣東中山人，1938年生於上海，1950年定居香港。香港葛量洪教育學院畢業，曾任教職，為香港《素葉文學》同人。1983年，她的〈像我這樣的一個女子〉榮獲《聯合報》小說獎推薦獎，正式開始了與台灣的文學緣。著作極豐，包括詩集、散文、長短篇小說等近三十種，形式及內容不斷創新，影響深遠。2005年獲《星洲日報》「花蹤世界華文文學獎」，2011年為香港書展「年度文學作家」。
內容簡介：
「《試寫室》是西西1970年在香港《快報》寫的專欄，每天一則，每則八百字，前後寫了幾個月。當時西西32歲，寫過不少影話、藝評、隨筆，編了兩齣電影劇本，也發表過幾篇小說和現代詩，在香港算是小有文名了。當時的西西，主要是一位專欄作家，也是一位剛起步的小說家。
這批四十多年前的專欄文字，連作者自己都遺忘了，卻生動地留下了當時香港青年人的生活側寫，以及一位始終好奇觀看這一切的作者形象。這裡的香港，是一座年輕的、朝氣蓬勃的城。西方青年文化大潮東來，從電影、時尚到搖滾樂，愈來愈多青年懂得追求更豐富的文化生活，也都願意費心讓自己活得更有風格。」 ───馬世芳
《試寫室》一書，由西西於1970年為香港《快報》專欄「我之試寫室」所撰文章，收輯而成；其他在《快報》的散文及閱讀專欄，已結集為《剪貼冊》、《花木欄》、《耳目書》、《像我這樣的一個讀者》。
「我之試寫室」借自西西喜愛的日本漫畫家久里洋二的專欄「僕の試写室」，書名亦由此而來。其中見之當時三十初的西西，爽朗瀟灑的明快筆風，迭有「現在的我遇上以前的我」之趣。
